Nathan Liu is an award-winning screenwriter, playwright, and illustrator based in Chicago. Growing up in Germany, and being part Chinese on his father’s side, Liu was surrounded by a myriad of influences as a child. All of which inspired him to tell stories. And his experiences having to fight for accommodations as a disabled person motivated him to use his storytelling to make the world a more compassionate place. Namely, by portraying the struggles of women, Asian Americans, queer and disabled folks.
He received his BFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU in 2018. His 2020 short film, “Call the Sandman,” earned awards at the Vesuvius and Blue Planet Film Festivals. His first feature, “Maggie,” won Best Narrative Feature at the Sugar Loaf Film Festival in 2023. Also in 2023, Liu’s script, “White Ghost,” took home the “Best Horror/Thriller” prize at the Big Apple Film Festival. In addition to his narrative work, Liu has produced promotional art for Victamax, and educational content for Talis Biomedical and PixelDust Studios.
